Scientists warn that the country's dense population, ageing buildings and proximity to major faults increase its risk profile.

Visuals from the ground show rescue teams, cracked walls and residents gathered outside buildings as authorities assess structural integrity and track aftershocks. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the region's seismic exposure

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake has shaken central Bangladesh, killing at least six people and leaving dozens injured.

Buildings in the country's capital, Dhaka, swayed in the temblor on Friday morning, sending panicked residents into the streets. The quake's epicentre in the Ghorashal area in Narsingdi district, about 25km from Dhaka. The US Geological Survey said it had a depth of 10km.
