France urges halt to Israel’s ‘destructive’ Gaza City invasion; Canada slams it as ‘horrific’

France’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the expansion and intensification of the Israeli ground, air and naval offensive in Gaza City, Al Jazeera reports.

It urged Israel in a statement to stop its “destructive campaign” in the city.

“France calls on Israel to end this destructive campaign, which no longer has any military logic, and to resume negotiations as soon as possible,” Paris said.

It also urged Israel to “immediately lift all restrictions imposed on the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, so as to allow for its immediate, massive, and unhindered delivery”.

Canada’s foreign ministry has called Israel’s new ground offensive in Gaza City “horrific”, Reuters reports.

“It worsens the humanitarian crisis and jeopardises the release of the hostages,” the foreign ministry said in a post on X. “The Government of Israel must adhere to international law.

“Canada stands with international partners in urging an immediate and permanent ceasefire, unrestricted humanitarian aid and the release of all hostages,” it added.Israeli military forces have stormed the city of Tubas and the village of Tayasir in the occupied West Bank, Al Jazeera reports.

Local sources told Wafa that another incursion took place into the town of Idhna and the city of Hebron, where a number of Palestinians and their vehicles were detained, with one man severely beaten by Israeli soldiers.

At the entrance to Fawwar camp south of Hebron, Israeli forces destroyed a number of Palestinian civilian vehicles parked in the area, which is now closed with an iron gate.
