India's military prowess on full display at R-Day parade

For the first time, a tri-service tableau participated in the Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path on Sunday. The tableau, themed “Shashakt aur Surakshit Bharat,” highlighted jointness and integration in the armed forces, with a focus on national security and operational coordination.

Indian Air Force helicopters flew over the parade route, carrying the national flags of India and Indonesia.

The tableau presented a battlefield scenario featuring synchronised operations across land, water, and air. Indigenous platforms such as the Arjun Main Battle Tank, Tejas MKII fighter aircraft, Advanced Light Helicopter, destroyer INS Visakhapatnam, and a Remotely Piloted Aircraft were displayed, reflecting coordination in multi-domain operations.

The Indian Army showcased tanks equipped with 125 mm smoothbore guns, 7.62 mm machine guns, and 12.7 mm anti-aircraft guns.

The Pralay weapon system, a surface-to-surface tactical missile with a range of 400 km, was also featured. The system is designed to target a variety of battlefield threats, enhancing India’s defence capabilities.

The Indian Air Force’s band, a formation of three MiG-29 aircraft, and its marching contingent also participated in the parade, adding to the display of military strength and coordination.

The Naval Marching Contingent also participated in the parade at Kartavya Path. Lt Commander Sagar Ahluwalia led the contingent.

India as a sovereign democratic republic completed 75 years of its eventful journey on Sunday, with the stage set at the Kartavya Path here for the ceremonial parade during which the country will showcase its military prowess and rich cultural heritage.

Besides VVIP dignitaries, members of the Paralympic contingent, sarpanches from top-performing villages, handloom artisans and forest and wildlife conservation workers are among the nearly 10,000 special guests who have been invited to witness the 76th Republic Day Parade.

President Droupadi Murmu will lead the nation in celebrating the momentous occasion and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will be the chief guest. A marching contingent and a band contingent from Indonesia will be participating in the parade.

While 75 years of the enactment of the Constitution is the focus of celebrations this year, the theme for the tableaux is 'Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas'.

The Indian Navy's tableau showcased its three newly commissioned frontline combatants -- warships INS Surat and INS Nilgiri, and submarine INS Vaghsheer. The three platforms commissioned in Mumbai on January 15, symbolises India's naval prowess and the spirit of 'Atmanirbharta' (self-reliance).

Parade Commander and General Officer Commanding, Delhi Area, Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar led the parade, followed by Parade Second-in-Command and Chief of Staff, HQ Delhi Area, Major General Sumit Mehta. Winners of the highest gallantry awards, including the Param Vir Chakra and the Ashok Chakra, followed the parade commander. They include Param Vir Chakra winners Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Yogendra Singh Yadav (retired) and Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar (retired), and Ashok Chakra winner Lieutenant Colonel Jas Ram Singh (retired).
