MULTAN, Nov Ist: Paulo Neves Pocinho, Ambassador of Portugal said that his country wanted to enhance cooperation with Pakistan in many fields including trade, IT, Textile, Renewable energy education and other sectors as both countries have good potential to strengthen bilateral collaboration for mutual benefit. He stressed that Dera Ghazi Khan Chamber should take a trade delegation to Portugal to explore new areas of business cooperation. He was exchanging views with Ex-President of MCCI and former Punjab caretaker Minister for Industries Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi, President, Dera Ghazi Khan Chamber of Commerce and Industry during his visit to Multan. He was highly impressed with the hospitality, politeness, softness of the people of Multan. He said," I have found Multan far better than I listened,"It is one of the ancient city of the world which had a history of thousands of years.He was also impressed with products of Roomi fabrics and said that it was earning a good name for Pakistan and it became a symbol of quality & standard. Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi informed the guest that Mehmood group of companies was playing a key role in industrialisation in South Punjab to end unemployment, poverty, and deprivation. He suggested that Portuguese investors should visit south Punjab to do business and to avail the facility of cheaper raw material as well as hard-working labour. Paulo Neves Pocinho said that being a hi-tech country, Portugal can cooperate with Pakistan in technology and machinery. He said that Portugal’s universities were top-ranking providing a pool of highly qualified professionals and Pakistani students should take benefit by studying in Portugal at an affordable cost. He said that Portugal’s economy has witnessed a paradigm shift over the past 10 years. Rather than just exporting goods, the country has also looked to export its services and Pakistan could benefit by enhancing cooperation with Portugal in the services sector. He said that DCCI should sign MoU with Portugal Chamber of Commerce & Industry to promote B2B relations between the private sectors of Pakistan and Portugal.
