Multan,Women empowerment is a key to economic turnaround, that is why Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has always played a pivotal role to make women independent and self-sustained.
Chairperson of MCCI women entrepreneur Committee & Ex- Senior Vice President Begum Romana Tanvir expressed these views while talking to a delegation of a women who visited Multan Chamber after completion of their course of " Dress Making"under Lodhran Pilot Project. The delegation presented dresses made by them and participants appreciated their skill and hoped that they would compete other skilled persons in near future. Sabeen Akhtar,Robina Dewan and acting Secretary General of MCCI Muhammad Shafiq also joined them.
She said that "Our women have great potential and they can go a long way in transforming the economy of Pakistan. If they are given due support and better opportunities they can boost Pakistan's GDP by 30 percent. For that matter we need to have favorable policies to foster women's participation in economic activities."
Roman Tanvir said that women, who make well over 50 per cent of total population, could not be kept away from development process of the country and they should come forward to play their role for the well-being of people. He said that women empowerment was a necessity for development of a society, since it enhanced both quantity and quality of human resources available for the development.
She said that women could do a lot with hard work, struggle and passion. Every woman should contribute its due role in strengthening the economy. She said that Multan Chamber had always played a pivotal role in patronizing women. She stressed the need for improvement of skill in due course of time and said that they follow the modern designing, knitting ,sewing, and demand of the international markets.
She said that promotion of women's work was a crucial contribution to progress towards sustainable development. She said that countries progress fast where women were educated and receive equal treatment as men. Romana Tanvir assured that training workshops would be organised in Multan Chamber to improve their skill.
