Eighteen civilians were killed and others injured on Saturday when an army truck crashed into a minibus in northern Ethiopia, local media reported.The accident in Amhara state happened in the morning, the state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporate said.Despite having one of the world's lowest per capita car ownership rates, deadly accidents are common in Ethiopia and often blamed on poor road and car maintenance and lax enforcement of safety rules.More around 4,500 people died in the 12 months up to July this year, according to government statistics.The death toll of a collision between a minibus and and a military truck in Ethiopia’s northern Amhara regional state has risen to 18, state media reported on Saturday.The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, initially leaving 14 dead while 12 others injured.The toll rose after four of the seriously injured succumbed to their injuries, state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC) said.The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Though Ethiopia has one of the lowest per capita car ownership in the world, deadly traffic accidents are fairly common, with the blame put on bad roads, flawed driving license issuance system and lax enforcement of safety rules.
