A speedy vehicle of US embassy in Islamabad crushed a motor cyclist who could not succumbed to wounds in Hospital. Police have register a case but no arrest was made till filing of this report. A motorcyclist in Islamabad was killed in a road accident on Saturday after being hit by a vehicle reportedly driven by the military attaché of United States.
The white Land Cruiser (QM 058), driven by US defence air attaché hit a motorcycle (ARM 900) around 3:00pm in Kohsar Police Station's jurisdiction. Motorcyclist Ateeq Baig, a resident of the city's Tihar suburb, was killed in the accident.
According to South Punjab News, Col Joseph Emanuel was driving a white SUV when he hit Ateeq and Raheel travelling on a motorbike. Resultantly, Ateeq died on the spot while Raheel suffered serious injuries and has been shifted to nearby hospital.
Police didn’t attempt to arrest the military attaché since he holds diplomatic immunity; however, they have shifted the US embassy’s vehicle to Kohsar police station.The US diplomat reportedly misbehaved with the police and left the police station in another vehicle.
The US official was not arrested owing to their diplomatic immunity, however, the police took custody of the vehicle.
A statement released by the US Embassy confirmed the accident. The embassy is in contact with the local authorities to probe the incident, the statement added.
