MULTAN, Jan 18th: Over 11.334 million bales of cotton have arrived in 2017-18 season at various ginneries in Pakistan, as on January 15, 2018, up 7.58 per cent over arrival of 10.535 million bales during the corresponding period of last season, according to the latest fortnightly report on cotton arrivals, released by Pakistan Cotton Ginners’ Association (PCGA).In the major cotton producing province of Punjab, total cotton arrivals increased by 4.79 per cent year-on-year to 6.765 million bales, according to the report prepared by PCGA, in joint cooperation with All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) and the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA). While in Sindh province, cotton arrivals increased 12.59 per cent to 4.245 million bales as on January 15 during the ongoing cotton season 2017-18.Of the total arrival of 11.334 million bales at various ginneries in Pakistan, 11.178 million bales were pressed by ginners, of which 10.080 million bales were sold, leaving an unsold stock of 11,64 ,132 bales with the ginners, as on January 15, according to the data.
The textile mills in Pakistan consumed 9.954 million bales, while another 2,16,215 bales of cotton were sold to exporters, according to the data.
Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) President Haji Muhammad Akram told mediamen that Seed cotton (Phutti) equivalent to over 1,13,34,725 bales of cotton have reached ginneries across Pakistan ,showing an increase of 7.58 per cent compared to corresponding period last year when ginneries received 1,05,35,922 bales. According to the 9th fortnightly report of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) issued. He said that out of the total arrivals, 11.334 million bales of cotton have been converted into bales so far. Ginneries in Punjab recorded arrival of 70,89,344 bales against the last year arrival of 67,65,159 bales showing an increase of merely 7.58 per cent. Sindh ginneries recorded arrival of 42,13,262 bales while last year Sindh received 37,49,,057 bales 12.38% more . Ginneries in Sindh recorded an increase of 12.59 % as compared to corresponding period last year.Textile mills have bought 99,54,378 bales while exporters bought 2,16,215 bales. The total bales sold out so far were calculated at 1,01,70,593 bales. While 11,64,132 bales are lying unsold because some ginners are waiting for higher prices of cotton in Market.Multan received 2,80.862 bales 4.17 % decrease than last year, Lodhran 1,63,943 bales 16.43 % decrease, Khanewal 6,94,110 bales an increase of 19.16 %, Muzaffargarh 3,56,880 bales an increase of 5.12 %, Dera Ghazi Khan 4,30,777 an increase of 26.83 %, Rajanpur 4,45,592 bales, 34 % increase,Layyah 2,93,017 bales 5.86.% increase, Vehari 5,78,481 bales 52.38 % increase, Sahiwal 2,71,221 bales 27.38 % more than last year, Pakpattan 39,130 bales 6.52 % decrease, Okara 15,775 bales- 17.35 % short, Toba Tek Singh 1,72,988 bales, 9.22 % increase , Faisalabad 36,549 bales 0.33 % less than last year, Jhang 21,232 showing a decrease of 29.83 %, Mianwali 2,03,145 a decrease of 24.94 % , Bhakkar 84,697 (35.88 % more) Sargodha 7,293 (25.94 % decrease), Rahimyar Khan 10,58,793 bales (7.38 % decrease), Bahawalpur 9,93,371 an increase of 3.90 %,and Bahawalnagar 9,41,488 bales ,a decrease of 17.96 %. In Sindh province: Hyderabad 2,51,684 bales 10.64 % more than last year,Mirpur Khas (Thar) 2,21,367 bales 18.20 % less, Sangarh ,13,82,037 bales 12.56 % increase, Nawabshah 3,48,299 bales (5.92 % increase), Naushero Feroze 3,73,675 bales (9.92% increase), Khairpur 3,35,916 (16.49 % increase) Ghotki 3,83,951(28.29 % increase),Sukkur 6, 15,671 (16.31 % increase), Dadu 68,636 (54.77 % increase), Jamshoro 1,30,110 bales (17.85 % more) ,Badeen 17,335 bales 35.86 % less) and Baluchistan 1,16,700 bales (an increase of 52.45%). Total 476 ginning factories are operational in the country.Of them 326 in Punjab and 150 in Sindh.Total 11,64,132 bales are lying in unsold stock.
