Awareness walk of persons with disabilities jointly organisedby MCCI & SSP

MULTAN, Dec 2nd: Society for Special persons and Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry jointly organised a rally from chamber to regional Scouts headquarter which was led by Fareed Mughis Sheikh former President of MCCI,  Sheikh Fazal Elahi, Syed Ijaz Shah and Mirza Ali Ahmed and Khurram Javed Secretary General,More than 100 disable mostly females joined the rally followed by a cake cutting ceremony and a  training workshop for parents to handle with special children.Zohra Sajjad Zaidi, Zahida Hameed Qureshi ,Begum Tahira Najam, Saadia Kirmani said that Persons with disabilities, “the world’s largest minority”, have generally poorer health, lower education achievements, fewer economic opportunities and higher rates of poverty than people without disabilities. This is largely due to the lack of services available to them (like information and communications technology (ICT), justice or transportation) and the many obstacles they face in their everyday lives. These obstacles can take a variety of forms, including those relating to the physical environment, or those resulting from legislation or policy, or from societal attitudes or discrimination.They said that factors which place people with disabilities at higher risk of violence include stigma, discrimination, and ignorance about disability, as well as a lack of social support for those who care for them.Today, the world population is over 7 billion people. More than one billion people, or approximately 15 per cent of the world's population, live with some form of disability. 80 per cent live in developing countries.UnitedNations had asked the Governments to implement measures to improve the life of disabled persons all over the world. People from different areas of Multan district  participated in the event to promote the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Event include art exhibitions promoting artwork by people with disabilities.In his message Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi President of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI)said "We have signed a MoU with Society forspecial persons and we are bound to coooperate with them in providing jobs and organising training workshops. He said that it was matter of satisfaction that our special persons are educated and skilled and able to serve the nation.He said that they are not alone because we are standing with them.
