Southern Punjab traders welcome the Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit

MULTAN: The business community of Southern Punjab has welcomed the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and trade delegations and reiterated their demand to withdraw discriminate tariff on Pakistani products.

President of Multan Chamber of Commerce& Industry (MCCI) Khawaja Jalal-uddin Roomi said, “Turkey is our reliable and long-standing friend since the inception of Pakistan.”

He said bilateral trade between Pakistan and Turkey had declined during the last few years and emphasised the need to enhance it.

MCCI Chief said Turkish President realised the gap in bilateral trade and stressed the need for joint ventures for enhancing bilateral trade and said that soon there would be an improvement in that regard. He added that international trade was becoming an increasingly important factor in creating jobs, enhancing competitiveness and efficiency of the domestic industry and strengthening development efforts.

He was of the view that traditional barriers to trade including tariffs and quantitative restrictions must be dismantled with a view to promote cross-border trade. He said the next logical step to further boost the economic cooperation between the two countries should be wider and deeper trade concessions.

Roomi said Muslim countries should focus on establishing mutually and internationally recognisable standards in Halal food so that their share could be enhanced.

He added Turkish investment in the fields of renewable energy, housing, transport, sanitation and infrastructure may be enhanced in the near future.
