MULTAN: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman says that although the religious parties are not in a position to form the government, they can definitely derail it.Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on Tuesday said while it is a fact that ‘we cannot form our government’ but once ‘we resolve to topple a government even its voters won’t be able to save it’.
Talking to media persons here, the Maulana said he stands with the government in stopping women’s persecution but the law that it has adopted ‘clashes with the teachings of the holy Qur’an and the values of our society’.
“If the Chief Minister’s wife puts him through the proposed treatment, will he be able to enter his own house?” he questioned.
Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman said 'in our society a man expected to assume responsibility of a bread earner', thus, he is the one who would hold the sway in running his household affairs.
“Rana Sanaullah says that the people do not cast their vote for religious parties but I want to make it clear to Sanaullah that though we are not in a position to form the government, we are able to derail the government whenever we want,” he said while talking to the media here on Tuesday.
Fazl said the government should introduce legislation under which a person who committed blasphemy against the Holy Prophet be punished automatically and people might not have to take law in their hands. He said a meeting of religious elements would be called soon over the issues of the protection of religious seminaries and Women Protection Act to devise future line of action.
The JUI-F chief said the Women Protection Act passed by the Punjab Assembly was against the constitution, law and Islamic teachings.
“We reject all such laws and will continue to play our role to protect the Sharia as such laws usually are introduced to fulfill the foreign agenda,” he said.Expressing his reservations on the recently passed Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Bill, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that he would not let the country become secular.
“We are with all those who want to end violence against women but by this law the country is going from one extreme position to another,” he remarked while addressing a news conference on Tuesday.
The JUI-F chief said the law does not adhere to the values of Pakistani society and contradicted religious beliefs. “This law is in conflict with the Holy Quran, the life of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), Constitution of Pakistan and values of our country.”
Talking about the legislation, he said that his party is not against the system of lawmaking but it should be done keeping in view the Islamic principles.
Religious parties have severely criticised the women protection bill, calling it an attempt to destroy the family system in Pakistan, even as the Punjab chief minister defended it.
The bill, which was unanimously passed by the Punjab Assembly on February 25, has 31 clauses, provides a system for complaint registration as well as penalties for offenders.
Under the law, a family court would fix hearing within seven days from receipt of the complaint. The defendant will have to show cause in court in the same week. All complaints would be decided within 90 days from the day of the receipt.
