A fire damaged at least three buildings in Jeddah's historic Al Balad district on late Tuesday, according to Arab media, the rescue workers were busy to evacuate the occupants from the buildings.
While talking to the media, district official of Al Balad said that the affected buildings were the Al-Qumsani, Al-Ashmawi and Abdel-Aal, adding that Civil Defense firefighters contained 80 percent of the fire at around 10 pm, while the fears loom that the Al-Qumsani building might collapse as fire mostly damaged it.
According to details, more than a dozen firefighting and rescue teams from Jeddah's Civil Defense Directorate helped in extinguishing the blaze.
While the Civil Defense spokesman in Makkah region, said the the process of controlling the fire was still underway, adding that rescue teams are evacuating the area around the fire to ensure the safety of residents.
Al-Balad is the historic center of Jeddah, the primary gateway to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.
The officials have started to ascertain the cause of the fire, no casualties were reported till filing of this report.
