The Counter Terrorism Department claimed on Teusday night to have killed
six members of the outlawed Al Qaeda and Tehrik Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in an
‘encounter’ in Chaubara in Layyah district .A CTD spokesman said that a tip-off
came that Al Qaeda and TTP were planning
to attack the offices of Government and personnels of law enforcement Agencies
(LEA).The spokesman said that on the basis of the tip-off, a joint team of ISI
and Multan Counter Terrorism Department personnel carried out a raid on the
meeting point near Chaubara to arrest them but the team challenged them to
surrender ,Instead the terrorists started straight firing at the raiding party and hurled a hand
grenade .The police team retaliated and when the firing stopped six Al
Qaeda/TTP militants were found dead. Police claimed that another two terrorists
managed to run away taking advantage of darkness .The spokesman said Two hand
grenades,two automatic rifles, and one TT pistol were recovered from the scene.
