A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Silver Springs, Nevada, on Monday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.The quake was at a depth of 9 km (5.59 miles), USGS said.
A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Silver Springs, Nevada, on Monday, followed by more than two dozen aftershocks, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake was reported at 6:29 p.m. and located about 11 miles southeast of Silver Springs. It had a reported depth of 3 miles.
The quake was initially reported as 5.5 before its magnitude was upgraded to 5.7. The USGS' ShakeMap said strong shaking was expected in the area.
The earthquake could be felt in the KCRA 3 newsroom in Sacramento.Lyon County said there was no significant damage or injuries that were reported.
"At this time, no major damage has been reported to critical infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, transportation systems, or utility services," the county said. "Out of an abundance of caution, response crews will continue conducting comprehensive damage assessments throughout Lyon County over the next several days. These assessments are intended to identify any potential impacts that may not be immediately visible, particularly to roads, bridges, water systems, and other essential services."
