Brooklyn nightclub victim count rises to 14, two of the dead were shooters

Two more victims were in the mass shooting at a crowded Brooklyn club were identified on Monday, bringing the total victim count up to 14, city officials announced.

Police initially tallied 12 shooting victims following the early Sunday morning gunfight at Taste of the City Lounge in Crown Heights. A thirteenth person walked into Kings County Hospital Sunday evening and a fourteenth victim arrived at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital the next morning, Mayor Eric Adams revealed at a press conference on Monday.

Both of the additional victims were expected to survive, the mayor said.

Two of the four gunmen responsible for the mass shooting have been identified, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. Jamil Childs, 35, and Martin St. Louis, 19, were two of the shooters and killed in the exchange of gunfire, according to Tisch.

"Mr. Childs has eight prior arrests, and is listed in our criminal database  as a member of the Folk Nation gang – a violent gang that terrorizes Brooklyn and is responsible for at least half a dozen shootings so far this year," the commissioner said Monday. She said three of the other shooting victims are also linked to the Folk Nation gang.

St. Louis, the youngest shooting victim who allegedly also opened fire at the Brooklyn club, had no "relevant" criminal history, the commissioner said.

Investigators believe the 19-year-old gunman opened fire first, shooting Childs following a brief argument inside the club. Tisch said the argument was caught on video surveillance.

The two other alleged shooters joined the gunfight. As of Monday morning, they were still being sought by the NYPD.

The third victim killed in the shootout was identified by police as Amadou Diallo, a 27-year-old man from Manhattan. A total of 14 people were shot, ranging in age from 19 to 61. All remaining victims were expected to survive.

Adams on Sunday said crisis management teams had been mobilized to provide trauma services and facilitate mediation efforts with the victims' friends and families to try to stop any retaliation. He asked members of the public who might have information about the shooting to help investigators by calling NYPD's crime stoppers line, 800-577-TIPS.

Taste of the City Lounge said in an Instagram Story Sunday that it was "devastated" by the shooting and was keeping the injured and the families of the deceased in its prayers.

Tisch also said some of the victims of the overnight violence were involved in the shooting.

"The safety and well-being of our guests and community has always been our top priority," the lounge said. "We are working closely with law enforcement and will continue to fully cooperate as the investigation moves forward."

Tisch said the violence erupted even as the city has reported the lowest number of shootings and shooting victims on record during the first seven months of 2025.

“Something like this is, of course, thank God, an anomaly and it's a terrible thing that happened this morning, but we're going to investigate and get to the bottom of what went down,” she said.

The crime is the second mass shooting within weeks in New York City during a year that has otherwise seen declining gun violence. On July 29, a man stalked through a Manhattan office tower with a rifle, wounding one person and killing four others. A New York City police officer was among those who died.

Mayor Eric Adams said both recent shootings just reinforce “why we do this work of going after guns off our streets.”

“This is the second within weeks, and we don't want this to turn into a normal course of doing business of violence in our city," he said.
