Renowned Islamic scholar Dr Zakir Naik , currently visiting Pakistan, visited the residence of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman, where the two discussed matters of religious unity and global challenges facing the Muslim community on Tuesday.
Dr Naik was accompanied by his son, Tariq Naik.
JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri confirmed that Maulana Fazlur Rehman warmly welcomed Dr Naik alongside a high-level delegation. During the meeting, Fazl praised Dr Naik's contributions to defending Islam, particularly in answering complex questions regarding the faith.
“You have graced our home with your presence,” Fazl said, adding that Dr Naik’s visit would bring further blessings to his mission. He commended Dr Naik's style of addressing religious queries, stating, “The way Dr Naik answers questions is a defence of the Muslim Ummah.”
The JUI-F chief further acknowledged that many have been inspired and embraced Islam through Dr Naik’s preaching. "Introducing the world to the beautiful face of Islam and working towards unity in the Muslim Ummah are our shared goals," he said. He emphasised that Dr Naik was not a guest but a host in his home, reflecting their strong bond.
Expressing his gratitude, Dr Zakir Naik said it had been his long-standing desire to meet Maulana Fazlur Rehman, which had now been fulfilled. “Yesterday, some friends came to meet me, but I said I must meet Maulana Fazlur Rehman first,” Dr Naik remarked.
He shared his journey of transitioning from the medical profession to Islamic preaching after studying the Quran, realising that “the best profession is the work of Dawah (inviting people to Islam).”
Dr Naik praised Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s efforts to unite the Muslim Ummah and expressed his admiration for the hospitality at his residence. “I feel a sense of belonging here,” he added.
During the meeting, Fazl presented Dr Naik with a bouquet and gifts, while Dr Naik reciprocated by giving Fazl a bottle of perfume. The gathering included prominent religious figures such as Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Maulana Asad Mahmood, and other senior JUI-F leaders.
The meeting concluded with Dr Naik joining Maulana Fazlur Rehman in leading the Maghrib prayers.
Earlier in the day, Dr Naik expressed his deep respect for Pakistan and its commitment to promoting Islam globally. "Pakistan, with its rich Islamic heritage, has a crucial role in spreading the message of peace and unity," he said, adding that his mission has always been to present Islam's true essence of peace and harmony.
While addressing the media, Dr Naik shared his reasons for not relocating to Pakistan after facing legal pressures in India. He explained that while Pakistan had been a natural option for relocation, he chose Malaysia to avoid being falsely labelled an ISI agent, which could have obstructed his mission. "Sharia teaches us to accept a lesser harm to avoid a greater one," he said, explaining his decision.
Dr Naik also expressed his fondness for Pakistan’s people and culture and emphasised his strong support base in the country. He had initially planned to visit Pakistan earlier, but the trip was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
