A man accused of trying to rape a five-year-old girl was severely tortured by the neighbourhood people in the Model Colony area of the city on Sunday.
The mob would have killed the suspect, Ahmed, with punches and kicks, however, someone informed the Model Colony police station and a heavy contingent reached the spot.
The cops had to fight their way through the melee of enraged people to rescue to the suspect and shift Ahmed to police station. The child's father said he will file a case after consultation.
According to Model Colony police Station SHO Hidayat Ullah, area residents claim that Ahmed molested children in past as well. Police are investigating the incident further.

Meanwhile, people in Gulberg area caught a robber in an attempted robbery.
Angry mob grabbed the suspect, tied him to a pole and tortured him severely.
As soon as the incident was reported, a heavy contingent of police reached the spot.
According to police officials, the four accused on two motorbikes were fleeing after robbing a citizen, meanwhile a citizen came out from inside a nearby bungalow and opened fire on the robbers, as a result of which three accused managed to escape while one accused was caught by residents after a long chase.
CCTV footage of the incident also surfaced.
Police officials said that the injured accused was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment.
An investigation has also been launched and raids are being carried out on the hideouts of his accomplices.
