Four Afghan singers held by Taliban Government


Four Afghan singers were arrested and put behind bars in Tehkal police station in KPK Today.

Afghan singers who were holding placards and chanting slogans against Police and local administration while staging the protest demonstration outside Peshawar Press Club on Monday, in a move to lodge their complaints against the latter.

They have entered Pakistan through difficult routes on the basis of insecurity, as there was a threat to their lives back home.

For more than 50 years, Afghan musicians and singers have produced works reflecting the diversity of their homeland.

From the traditional folk of Mahwash and the classic pop of Ahmad Zahir to the modern sounds of Aryana Sayeed and ferocity of rockers Kabul Dreams, Afghanistan's music industry is as vibrant as it is soulful.

KPK :No matter where we go  police arrest us in Pakistan & Afghan Taliban government in Afghanistan does not tolerate us. Now KPK police have arrested 4 of our comrades here.

Asadullah pseudonym is an Afghan singers 25 years old who came to Peshawar after establishment of Taliban rule in Afghanistan.

He is accompanied by 2 brothers while other members of his family remain in Afghanistan.

Asadullah says there is a bit of work with local artists which generates some income most of which is sent to Afghan families.

Assadullah told British News For us this land has been narrowed down. I do Not know where to go. The police have started cr-acki-ng down & arrests are being made these days.

If they go out to eat they ask for a card a passport  even KPK police come to the room we have in a building he said.

They threaten to take us to court saying that you are a refugee & that you are living here. You do Not have a card we say we are refugees we are human beings we are in difficult situations there are no criminals. 

Asadullah said We introduce ourselves to the police that we are singers. They say that if you are a singer do Not you listen to songs? We say that songs will-be sung at weddings or celebrations of their brothers or sons but we do not have any hearing.

Afghan & Pakistani artists staged a unique protest in front of  Peshawar Press Club on Monday morning with harmoniums & drums. The protest follows arrest of 4 Afghan artists.

Protesters have demanded the release of arrested artists & demanded that they be given a document or card that would not be disturbed by  police.

After Peshawar Press Club protesters marched in front of KPK Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in order to reach out to the authorities.
