Pakistan Navy and Customs confiscated liquor worth Rs70.5 million in a joint intelligence based operation (IBO) off the coast of Kund Malir near Ormara, said the navy on Saturday.
"In a successful Intelligence Based Operation, Pakistan Navy and Customs Intelligence & Investigation Directorate Gwadar apprehended liquor comprising of approx 5,400 bottles at sea of Kund Malir near Ormara," the communiqué read.
"The confiscated liquor was valued at approximately Rs70.5 million," it added.
The PN further stated that "the successful execution of joint anti-narcotics operation is a demonstration of Pakistan Navy resolve to deter, dissuade and disrupt all illegal activities in the maritime zones of Pakistan."
Pakistan Navy, it maintained, remains fully vigilant to thwart any unlawful act along the coastline and sea, contributing effectively to ensure maritime security in the region.
Earlier this month, Customs intercepted a truck and recovered arms and ammunition being smuggled from Afghanistan to Pakistan.
The authority seized several vehicles trying to smuggle cloths, electronics and medical equipment,” said a Customs official.
An official had added that a driver was arrested and an FIR was registered against him. In another incident, Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle dry batteries of trucks and other vehicles, arrested several accused and registered an FIR against them.
