Soldier martyred in South Waziristan IBO

A soldier of the Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom on Sunday during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's South Waziristan district, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The military's media wing said the operation was conducted in the Senai Narai area of the district on the reports of the presence of terrorists.

"During intense exchange of fire with terrorists, Sepoy Junaid, age 20 years, resident of Balakot, district Mansehra embraced shahadat," the statement added.

It further said a cordon and search operation was underway for any terrorists found in the area.

On June 20, security forces killed two terrorists during an IBO in North Waziristan district, ISPR said.

It said that the operation was conducted in North Waziristan's Spinwam area on reports of the presence of the militants.

The statement further said that the killed terrorists were active members of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Spinwam and were involved in terrorist activities against the security forces.

Earlier in June, a Pakistan Army soldier was martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion near a military checkpost in Kaniguram area of South Waziristan district.

“Lance Naik Waqas Ahmed, a 26-year-old Karachi resident, embraced shahadat (martyrdom) in the incident,” the military’s media wing said in a statement.

Last month, an officer, identified as Captain Faheem, and two soldiers – Sepoy Shafi and Sepoy Naseem – embraced martyrdom during an exchange of fire with the terrorists in North Waziristan's Dosalli area while security forces were conducting an IBO.

In April, security forces killed a terrorist belonging to TTP Shehryar Mehsud group during an IBO in the Ladha area of South Waziristan, according to the ISPR.
