British pop sensation Duffy has finally opened up about her horrific rape ordeal, coming back to the limelight after a nine-year gap.
Duffy, whose real name is Aimee Duffy, shared a harrowing account of being raped, drugged and held captive for weeks and said she was telling her “dark” story to help “others who have suffered the same.”
Via a post on her verified Instagram page, which the singer just reopened, Duffy claims she was drugged at a restaurant on her birthday before being held captive at home and taken to a foreign country. The 35-year-old Welsh singer first revealed her ordeal in February. “It was my birthday, I was drugged at a restaurant, then drugged for four weeks and travelled to a foreign country. I can’t remember getting on the plane and came round in the back of a travelling vehicle,” she explained. “I was put into a hotel room and the perpetrator returned and raped me. I remember the pain and trying to stay conscious in the room after it happened. I was stuck with him for another day. He didn’t look at me, I was to walk behind him, I was somewhat conscious and withdrawn. I could have been disposed of by him.”

The Mercy songstress believes she does not know how she had “the strength to endure those days” and claims the perpetrator made “veiled confessions of wanting to kill” her.
Duffy says she is sharing her ordeal because “we are living in a hurting world.” She added, “I hope it comforts you to feel less ashamed if you feel alone. I am no longer ashamed that something deeply hurt me, anymore. I believe that if you speak from the heart within you, the heart within others will answer. As dark as my story is, I do speak from my heart, for my life, and for the life of others, whom have suffered the same.
As for escaping the horrendous ordeal, Duffy claimed she fled but did not provide an account of how she got away, adding she “cannot remember getting home.”
She said that she initially feared going to the police but eventually told a female officer what happened after someone threatened to “out her story”.
The Well Well Well hit maker adds that she was at high risk of suicide following the ordeal and has spent almost 10 years completely alone.
Duffy’s most recent album Endlessly came out in 2010 and last month, a new song titled Something Beautiful was released.
The 35 year old hitmaker, whose real name is Aimee Duffy, told her “dark” story via Instagram “help others who have suffered the same.” “It was my birthday, I was drugged at a restaurant, I was drugged then for four weeks and travelled to a foreign country, I can’t remember getting on the plane and came round in the back of a travelling vehicle. I was put into a hotel room and the perpetrator returned and raped me.”Duffy, who has three Brit awards and a Grammy to her name, says she “could have been disposed of by him”. Although she considered running away, she was scared he would call the police. “I do not know how I had the strength to endure those days, I did feel the presence of something that helped me stay alive,” she said. She also knew her life was “in immediate danger” because her unnamed attacker made veiled threats to kill her. “It didn’t feel safe to go to the police,” she explained. “I felt if anything went wrong, I would be dead, and he would have killed me. I could not risk being mishandled or it being all over the news during my danger.”Duffy revealed she escaped her rapist by “fleeing” but “cannot remember getting home”. After it all, the singer was at “high risk of suicide”. “I would not see someone, a physical soul, for sometimes weeks and weeks and weeks at a time, remaining alone,” she added. “I would take off my pyjamas and throw them in the fire and put on another set. My hair would get so knotted from not brushing it, as I grieved, I cut it all off. In hiding, in not talking, I was allowing the rape to become a companion.”She continued: “I thought the public disclosure of my story would utterly destroy my life, emotionally, while hiding my story was destroying my life so much more. I believe that not singing is killing me.”Duffy thanked her psychologist for helping her through the trauma by giving her the courage to share her story. “So, I just have to be strong and disclose it and face all my fears head on. I’ve come to realise I can’t erase myself, I live in my being, so I have to be completely honest and have faith in the outcome,” she said. “I can now leave this decade behind. Where the past belongs. Hopefully no more ‘what happened to Duffy questions’, now you know … and I am free.”
