HCBA Multan election-Ch.Tahir Mehmood,Sajjad Haider Sipra elected as President & General Secretary


MULTAN, Feb 29th:The Independent Group led by Mirza Aziz Akbar Baig, Syed Athar Shah Bukhari, Habib ullah Shakir, clinched the slot of president by defeating the rival Group of Pathans in the High Court Bar Association (HCBA)Multan polls held here on Saturday.
Chaudhri Tahir Mehmood was elected president of the HCBA for the year 2020-21by securing 2614 votes as Syed Riaz Ul- Hassan Gilani returned as runner-up by bagging 1905 votes. It was one to one contest. There total registered votes were 7884 .Of them 4548 were cast. Sajjad Haider Sipra elected as General Secretary by obtaining 1861 votes,his rival Safdar Sarsana got 1088,Muhammad Anwar Ali Khan Rana 1058, Sheikh Atiq-ur-rehman 507. Tahir Ali Qureshi has been elected as Vice President by securing 2213 votes,his rival Muhammad Ramzan Bhatti got 1286 and Mian Tahir Iqbal 936 votes, Ehsan Ali Gill was elected as Finance Secretary by bagging 2550 votes,his rival Muhammad Nawaz Noul annexed 1867 votes. Farzana Kausar Rana of Rajanpur has been elected as Library Secretary Her rival Nausheen Afshan Baloch got 1887 vores.While Seven member of executive committee were elected unopposed.They are Haji Dilbar Khan Mahar, Mian Muhammad Akram, Kamran Rasul Qaiserani, Muhammad Azam Ali Chauhan, Ta'azeem Ahmed Bajwa,Mehr Fakhar Raza,Ajmal Malana and Rao Sajjad Ali.
Tahir Mehmood Chaudhry  was solidly supported by Mirza Aziz Akbar Baig, Syed Tahar Shah Bukhari, Habib-ullah Shakir, Malik Haider Usman ,Mumtaz Hussain Noor Tangra.Major Political parties lawyers were divided in smaller groups.PTI failed to put its unanimous candidate.Lawyers say that it was purely non-political and non-partisan election. However ,this election would have effects on Punjab Bar council and Pakistan Bar council elections. Soon after the announcement of the result, the supporters of the winners danced to the beat of drum, distributing sweets and hugging each other in jubilation. At least 4548 lawyers of Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions used their right to franchise for electing the HCBA leaders for the year 2020-21 out of 7884 eligible voters.
The turnout remained 57.68 %  which was  far better because majority of the people was busy enjouing the PSL-V where Multan Sultan made hat trick by winning the third match against Peshawar Zalme, Karachi king ,Quetta Gladiater .
Polling started at 9am under the supervision of Seasoned Lawyer Kanwar Muhammad Younas and the process continued till 5pm with a one-hour lunch break at 1pm as no untoward incident was reported. 22 polling booths were set up for the voters to cast votes through biometric system. Foolproof security arrangements were made on polling day as heavy contingents of police were deployed around the Multan High Court building.
