MULTAN: The Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) on Tuesday dismissed from service an assistant professor after an inquiry found him guilty of harassing and blackmailing a female student, South Punjab News reported on Tuesday.
According to a notification issued by the university, an inquiry had held Dr Wasif Nouman guilty for harassing and blackmailing a female student. Nouman was accused of the offences last year.
In its notification, the university administration stated that a meeting had been held on January 19, 2019 and on the recommendations of an inquiry held by the harassment committee, had deemed that there "are sufficient grounds to proceed against Dr. Wasif Nouman, Accused Assistant Professor TTS, Department of Forestry 8 Range Management".
The notification said that Dr Nouman was given full opportunity to appear before the committee and present his case. However, the authority found no reason to disagree from the findings of the inquiry committee's report that concluded that the professor was guilty The university said the assistant professor was further allowed to defend himself by giving his answer in writing and even after that, the authority had found that that charges against him were not false.
"Hence the charge leveled against Dr Wasif Nouman has been fully proved," read a statement from the notification.
The authority hence imposed 'major penalty' on the professor and issued orders of 'dismissal of service' with effect from January 19, 2019. 17th December, 2018) The assistant professor of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Dr Wasif Awan, who was earlier abducted by the students, has been suspended for allegedly harassing the female students.
A female student of the university recorded her statement before the inquiry committee against Dr Wasif following which he was suspended on Sunday.
An inquiry committee was formed after complaints of sexual harassment were received against him.
Dr Wasif was accused of harassing the student by sending her indecent videos.
Earlier, the BZU professor was allegedly abducted on Wednesday by students who was recovered after five hours.
The sources at the BZU said that Dr Wasif Nauman, an assistant professor at Forestry and Range Management department, was going to pick his daughter from Multan Public school this noon when students in three cars allegedly stopped his vehicle.
They dragged him out of the vehicle and took him in one of the cars.
People informed the police emergency 15 about the incident.
Meanwhile, the police stopped a car at Nagana Chowk check post and took masked students with guns into custody who helped the police in tracing where about of the kidnapped professor and their accomplices, the sources said.
After five hours, the police recovered Dr Waif, the source stated.
However, it later turned out that the professor had tried harassing the female students.
