ADB is launching Improving Workforce Readiness project in Punjab

MULTAN, Oct 15th: Asian Development Bank, will setup six most modern and well-equipped Centers of Excellence in Punjab for providing the latest training and providing updated skill development facilities in the newest fields to the students of TEVTA. Asian Development Bank representatives Herman Sonneveld and  Alexander Siboui said that ADB would work on the project of Improving Workforce Readiness in Punjab. They called on President of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) Sheikh Fazal Elahi and exchanged views about the requirement of the South Punjab Industry. They invited recommendations and proposals for the improvement of skill of the trainees. ADP reps said that the provision of fully equipped modern labs in TEVTA institutions was amongst our top priorities so that the TEVTA students could acquire top class expertise by having hands-on training in these labs. "Linkage with industries would be strengthened under the program for adapting the courses in accordance with their requirements for ensuring preparation of a readily acceptable skill force for the job market," they added.MCCI President was of the view that there was dire need of skill in tunnel farming,Livestock, fisheries, and other trades. Senior Vice President of MCCI Mian Rashid Iqbal said that Government should expand existing programs and reforms, such as competency-based training and assessment (CBTA), centers of excellence (COEs) and sector skills councils, and work-based training.He said," We are ready for internship of the workforce because they are future of our country,". Ex-President Khawaja Muhammad Usman emphasised on upgrading the existing three-year courses so that skilled labour could be prepared to meet the challenges of a new era. Ex-Vice President Khawaja Muhammad Farooq and acting Secretary-General Muhammad Shafiq were also present there.
