Joint Action Committee observed sit in for safe recovery of missing Shias

MULTAN, Sept 22nd: Relatives of missing persons belonging to the Shia community staged a protest outside the residence of Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Sunday afternoon to seek their early and safe recovery. A number women and children also joined them. They observed sit-in infront of Qureshi's residence but heavy police contingent was deployed at his residence they kept them away from the main gate. Joint Action Committee (JAC) for missing Shia persons organised protest rallies in Multan,Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore during which the participants carried placards and banners as well as portraits of the missing people, as they shouted slogans for their safe recovery.
Leaders from the Shia Action Committee Syed Nasir Abbas Shirazi, Qasim Shamsi of ISO, Allama Ghulam Shabbir Bukhari, Allama Syed Hasnain Abbas Gardezi, Allanma Haider Abbas Abidi, Allama Iqtidar Hussain Naqvi, Allama Nadir Hussain Alvi, Allama Tahir Abbas Naqvi led the protest rally,  They said that dozens of persons, including members of their community, were “missing after they were picked up and taken to undisclosed locations, but the government has refused to take any responsibility for the trend”. A senior Lawyer of Multan Mr.Yafis Hashmi was kidnapped from blue area of Islamabad when he was busy in shopping with his family.
He claimed that at several Shia youths from various parts of the country had been picked up by plain-clothes men from their homes in the past few weeks and their whereabouts were still unknown.Calling for all those who had been picked up to be presented in courts without delay, the protesters said that one of the purposes of organising the protest was to make an appeal to the federal and provincial governments, the judiciary and the police force to fulfil their constitutional responsibilities in this regard.
