LHC Multan Bench suspends Detention orders by District Magistrate

MULTAN, August 9th: Mr.Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti, a senior Judge of Lahore High Court Multan Bench has suspended the detention order of an alleged blasphemer Syed Khalil Ahmed who acquitted by District & Session Judge Multan as the prosecution could not prove his guilt. The Petitioner's lawyer Syed Athar Shah Bukhari contended that Syed Khalil Ahmed was languishing in prisons for the last five years under the crime which he did not commit. After spending more than five years in jail, the accused of blasphemy was acquitted by  District and Session Judge  Multan  Suhail Ikram because the complainant Muhammad Ramzan Faizia organiser of Jamaat Ahle- Sunnat  withdrew his complaint saying that it was an outcome of misunderstanding. Khalil Ahmed  was in Jail since May 27,2014 following registration of an FIR against him under sections 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code. Advocate Syed Athar Hassan Shah of the counsel for the accused said the he  is presently in New Central Jail Multan. After acquittal by Session court.his detention is unlawful and contrary to the justice and Human rights. Athar Shah Bukhari counsel of the accused, said that his client had been behind bars for five years and three months.He  said the case against him should have been decided within two years and this did not take place due to lawyers’ strikes and delaying tactics by the prosecution.
