The Lahore High Court (IHC) on Thursday took notice of the measly Rs1,375 pension being given to two-time war hero Muhammad Yaseen.
The IHC bench, headed by Justice Waqas Rauf, heard the case proceedings in which a petition was filed by his advocate Inam-ur-Rahim.
The plea states that the federal government was not bearing any of Yaseen’s medical expenses.
“He is now 72-year-old and in 2018 the government fixed the pension as at least Rs10,000 but this wasn’t imposed on the complainant, defence ministry,” the petition reads.
“GHQ concerned branches must be issued a notice to provide him Rs10,000 as pension and free of cost medical facility at military hospitals, petition was approved for hearing,” it further reads.
In view of this, the court issued a notice to the government demanding a reply within three weeks time.
Service to country
Yaseen fought valiantly in both Indo-Pak wars in 1965 and 1971 for which he won two medals.
The war hero also spent three years as a prisoner of war in the 1971 battle. Advocate Rahim, in a petition, told the court that Yaseen, joined Punjab’s military regiment in Islamabad on December 4 in 1964.
In 1965 war, he fought for the Jhamb troop front for which he was awarded with a medal.
Moreover, in the 1971 war, he was again called up and then sent to Rangpur border where he was made a prisoner of war and spent three years in confinement.
He was then sent back to Pakistan in 1974. On his arrival, he was awarded a second medal in 1975.
