Acid throwing-Faisalabad woman attacked with acid for refusing marriage proposal

A woman suffered severe injuries after she was attacked with acid in the Saddar police jurisdiction of Faisalabad  on Tuesday.
A police official told South Punjab News that Ramzana, 35, the owner of a small ‘dhaba’ a food outlet, refused the marriage proposal of Malik Nadeem several times.
After her last refusal, he threw acid on the victim when she was working in her shop at 225-RB in Ahmad Nagar.
The victim suffered severe burn injuries and was shifted to the district headquarters hospital by Rescue 1122. The assailant managed to escape from the scene.
City Police Officer (CCPO) Ashfaq Ahmad Khan took serious notice of the incident and directed the Saddar SHO to register a case and arrest the culprit at the earliest.
Acid attack is common all over the world, but it is awfully rampant in Pakistan. Mostly, the women are attacked by sulphuric and nitric acid which are very dangerous and endanger the women. Hydrochloric is an acid which is used for blindness. Acid attack claimed several lives and caused several injured who are in massive situation even today. The acid attack is a crime and the cases are rapidly increasing in Pakistan.
According to HRCP report, 150 to 4,000 cases of acid attack are reported in Pakistan yearly including both women and men. It is a matter of great concern that the culprits are openly roaming around. A report revealed for the period from January to September 2014 shows, about 42 cases of acid attacks have been recorded in Punjab. In 2012 and 2013, there was a decrement in acid attacks by 13 PC, but it escalated in 2014 mostly affecting the women. The UN is requested to ensure the safety of women’s rights and protect them from acid attacks.
