Pakistan wants political settlement of Afghan conflict, Visit Kabul on Dec 15: FM Qureshi

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Sunday that Pakistan wants political settlement of Afghan conflict as it firmly believes that dialogue is the only way forward.
Addressing the media in Multan, the foreign minister reiterated that “there is no military solution to the issue”.
In addition, he said that Pakistan is committed to an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process in the war-torn country and will continue to play a positive role in bringing peace and stability in the region, South Punjab News reported.
Regarding the opening of Kartarpur corridor, Foreign Minister Qureshi said the initiative was taken to facilitate the Sikh community in India. He added that the gesture of goodwill has been acknowledged globally.
Commenting on the current economic environment, he said that the rupee will become stable once the country steers out of economic crisis. Readjustment in currency valuation will have a positive impact on exports, he further elaborated
On the occasion, the minister maintained that when the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government had come into power, the country’s economy was in dire straits and financial and trade deficits were at a staggering level.
However, Finance Minister Asad Umar took the bull by the horns and made corrective measures to manage the finances, he added.Earlier he addressed a National Traders Convention in Multan which was organised by Khawaja M.Suleman Siddiqui Chairman Markazi Anjuman Tajiran.   Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday announced that he would depart for Afghanistan on December 15 for talks with Kabul on political reconciliation and durable peace in the country.
Addressing a ceremony in Multan on Saturday, Qureshi said it is the robustness of Pakistan’s foreign policy that the US has requested for assistance in Afghan issue.
Qureshi underscored that Islamabad’s foreign policy is on a positive trajectory based on national interest and self-reliance.
The foreign minister reiterated that Pakistan is committed to Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.
He apprised those in attendance that Prime Minister Imran Khan had expressed satisfaction over the performance of the ministry of foreign affairs in the first 100 days of the government
The minister reiterated that the government had raised the issue of blasphemous caricatures at the United Nations and with the Dutch government, in a strong voice.
The controversial cartoon contest was cancelled in the Netherlands due to Pakistan’s vociferous efforts, he maintained.
Qureshi further said that Pakistan had made the decision of opening of Kartarpur Border to facilitate Sikh pilgrims. This step gave a message of peace and love from Pakistan.
He said Sikh community in the whole world expressed pleasure over this initiative of Pakistan and appreciated the move.
The minister said the issue of Kashmir was effectively highlighted at the UN and other world forums, adding that the human rights violations by Indian forces in the territory were exposed.
