Seven killed, 19 injured as truck collides with passenger bus in Khuzdar

At least seven people have been killed, as 19 others got seriously injured after a passenger bus collided with a truck in Balochistan’s Khuzdar district on Saturday.
The Karachi-bound bus had 45 passengers on board when it collided with a truck in Zawa area, some 300km from Quetta. Security forces and rescue workers rushed to the scene.
“Seven passengers traveling to Karachi were killed, while 19 others injured were shifted to Combine Military Hospital, Khuzdar with three of them said to be in a critical condition,” Deputy Commissioner Khuzdar Maj (retd) Ilyas said.
He added that one of the passengers had suffered severe bruising and was shifted to Karachi.
The Levis force said the accident occurred when the truck’s driver tried to overtake the coach at a sharp turn.
The driver was unable to control the bus and hit the truck as a result.
“Following a rise in accidents, we have already placed ambulances at Quetta-Karachi highway to provide timely rescue in case of a mishap.” Maj Ilyas.
Balochistan has an alarming rate of road accidents as compared with other provinces with more people being killed in highway accidents than terrorism.
Earlier on October 28: At least 17 people were killed when a bus fell into a ravine on the Karakoram Highway on Sunday.
According to details issued by Deputy Commissioner Kohistan Hamidur Rehman, a passenger coach was en-route to the garrison city of Rawalpindi from Gilgit-Baltistan’s Ghazr area when it plunged from high depth mountainous terrains of Karakoram Highway into the Indus River.
The van had 18 people on board – only one woman miraculously survived the accident.
The district administration, police and rescue teams arranged cranes to lift the bodies and move them to a hospital. Rescue workers faced difficulty in reaching the scene of the accident owing to the terrain and darkness.The incident took place within the Lotar Police Station. On October 23, seven people were burnt to death while four others received burn injuries after a van carrying smuggled oil had collided with a truck in the Mach area of Bolan district. The deceased included two brothers while two policemen injured in the incident.
Bolan Deputy Commissioner Capt (retd) Farrukh Atique said, “A van carrying smuggled oil collided with a Mazda truck at 3am on Tuesday leaving seven people dead and four, including two policemen, injured.
“Three vans (including the one carrying smuggled oil), a car and a truck (with which the van collided) were completely torched in the accident.”
