FIA's crackdown against Indian DTH, a dozen traders held

Traders of electronic markets staged a demonstration, burnt tyres to block the roads in Multan when FIA team raided a number of shops where illegal DTHs (Direct-To-Home) licences were being sold openly and arrested five trader while other traders made their good escape.Similar ,raids were conducted in Dera Ghazi Khan ,Muzaffargarh, and Rahimyar Khan.The FIA team faced severe resistence in Hussain Agahi Market. The FIA arrested eight accused over selling illegal DTHs (Direct-To-Home) licences during separate actions in Faisalabad and Chiniot on Saturday. The FIA spokesman said that over complaints of a massive increase in illegal sale of DTHs, operation was conducted in different areas of Faisalabad and Chiniot. He said that during separate actions, eight culprits involved in the illegal sale of DTHs were apprehended. The detainees were being interrogated at concerned FIA police stations and more arrests were expected.The Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), in assistance with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and customs department, conducted crackdowns against illegal Indian Direct-to-home television (DTH) in various cities of Punjab as per Supreme Court (SC) orders and seized hundreds of illegal DTH and arrested 10 people.
According to details, the crackdowns were launched in Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Shiekhupura, Pakpattan and Sahiwal. In Lahore, a crackdown was conducted in major markets with more than 300 illegal dishes and receivers seized by the FIA.
During the operations, conducted in various cities across the province, 10 people were also arrest over resistance and other DTH related activities. The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Saturday reinstated a ban on the transmission of Indian content on local television channels, setting aside an earlier verdict by the Lahore High Court (LHC).
