Prime Minister Imran Khan attends security briefing at GHQ

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday visited the General Headquarters (GHQ) to attend a crucial briefing by the army chief on defence and internal security matters, said a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The premier was received by Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on arrival.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived to visit GHQ. Received on arrival by COAS. PM being briefed on defence, internal security and other professional matters,” said the ISPR tweet.
PM Imran was accompanied by Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Finance Minister Asad Umar, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Minister of State for Interior Shaheryar Afridi.
On August 27, the army chief called on PM Imran to congratulate him on assuming office. The meeting was held at the office of the Prime Minister and according to a statement the prime minister and the army chief discussed the country’s security situation, reiterating their desire to bring peace and stability while continuing efforts to achieve regional harmony.
It was the PM’s first meeting with the COAS after assuming office. General Qamar had also attended Imran’s swearing in ceremony on August 18 while, their first formal meeting was held in 2017 when the PTI chairman visited Bajwa to congratulate him on his appointment as COAS.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that Pakistan is facing external and internal challenges but with support of the nation and through a cohesive national approach, we shall successfully overcome these.
Prime Minister said this during his visit to GHQ on Thursday.
PM Imran Khan visited GHQ along with federal ministers of defence, foreign affairs, finance, information and state minister of interior and secretary defence, said Inter Services Public Relations, the media wing of the military.
Upon arrival, PM Imran Khan was presented guard of honour by a smartly turned out guard. PM laid floral wreath at the Shuhada monument to pay tribute to the martyrs. PM was introduced to all PSOs of the GHQ.

Imran Khan appreciated contributions and sacrifices of Pakistan Army in war against terrorism.
The Prime Minister and the ministers were given detailed briefings on security environment, threat spectrum and response. Updates on Pak Army’s campaign against terrorism, ongoing operation Radd-ul-Fassad, Karachi situation and Khushal Balochistan program was also given.
PM Imran greatly appreciated professionalism, operational readiness and contributions and sacrifices of Pakistan Army in war against terrorism.He said, “Pakistan is facing external and internal challenged but with the support of nation and through cohesive national approach, we shall successfully overcome these.”
PM assured that government shall provide all resources to maintain capability of the Army.
He said, “Pakistan is destined to rise and InshaAllah we shal rise staying positively relevant in the comity of nations.”
Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa thanked PM Imran for his visit and posing confidence in the Army.
The Army Chief assured that Pakistan Army shall continue to deliver on nations expectations of defending the motherland at all costs and sacrifices.
