Grievances of ginners would be redressed- Minister of State for Textiles

Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari Minister Of State Commerce And Textile said that the textile sector in Pakistan has an overwhelming impact on the economy, contributing 57% to the country’s exports. In today’s highly competitive global environment, the textile sector needs to upgrade its supply chain, improve productivity, and maximize value-addition to be able to survive. The Ministyer assured to resolve the problems confronted by the ginning industry and hoped that Ginners would help in supplying contamination free cotton to spinners and rextile millers. He was talking to a delegation of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) headed by Haji Muhammad Akram its Chairman while Mukhtar Ahmed Khan Baloch Ex0-Chairman of PCGA and Suhail Mehmood Haral were accompanied by him. The Minister listened to them patiently and said that ginners and spinners are two wheels of a carriage and both should cooperate each other. He said that the objectives of the Textile Industry Division are to formulate strategies and programme to enable the textile sector and all stake holders from Farmers to millers to meet these challenges and attain global competitive.Haji Muhammad Akram apprised the Minister fof their grievances like stuck up refund claims of withholding tax, unjusts and embarassing notices of FBR to ginners. He demanded that Ginning industry be exempted of Sales tax on electricity bills and withdrawal of cotton standardisation fee .The Minister assured that his ministry would refer their grievances to concerned ministries. He said that Textile  Division also assists the sector in acquiring benchmarks and compliance standards, specialized trainings and skill development, enhancing productivity, and carrying out research for better technologies to make it progressive and forward-looking. He said that . Textile industry in Pakistan is the largest manufacturing industry in Pakistan [1]. Pakistan is the 8th largest exporter of textile commodities in Asia. Textile sector contributes 8.5% to the GDP of Pakistan [2]. In addition, the sector employs about 45% of the total labor force in the country (and 38% of the manufacturing workers). Pakistan is the 4th largest producer of cotton with the third largest spinning capacity in Asia after China and India and contributes 5% to the global spinning capacity[3]. At present, there are 1,221 ginning units, 442 spinning units, 124 large spinning units and 425 small units which produce textile[
