Passenger suffers first-degree burns after a cell phone explodes

A passenger has been severely burned on an Air Canada flight after her phone caught fire before takeoff.
The incident happened at 7am on Thursday before a flight from Toronto to Vancouver was set to takeoff at Pearson International Airport.
Passengers on the flight reported black smoke from one of the back rows of the airplane where a female's cell phone had caught fire.
Crew members were able to extinguish the fire before it caused any damage to the aircraft, but the passenger was severely burned and taken to the hospital.
The flight was delayed more than two hours after firefighters had to board the plane to handle the incident.
The passenger who was burned was treated by medical personnel before she left the plane to go to a nearby hospital.
'I look behind me and in the aisle it looked like a small campfire-sized flame,' passenger Brandon Scott said to CTV News. 'My first thought was "oh my god, I have to get off this plane".'
One passenger - who was in a row behind the fire - said the woman had a phone-sized, first-degree burn on her left hand.
There were 266 passengers on board the flight before the small fire started in the back rows of the plane.
Air Canada told CTV News that the fire was immediately put out and caused no damage to the aircraft.
Once the situation was under control, the plane was able to takeoff and head to Vancouver.
It is unclear the status of the female passenger who was burned or what type of phone caught fire.
