A female athlete was found dead in a room of a Punjab University hostel

A female athlete was found dead in a room of a Punjab University hostel here on Tuesday.
Police said Ayesha Furqan, 22, of People’s Colony, Attock, came to the university on Oct 23 after she was called for trials as she had applied for admission on a sports quota.
Police said the girl was permitted by the university administration to stay in the hostel with her cousin, a student of BS (Hons).
They said the girl came back to the hostel after trials in the morning whereas her cousin attending her classes.
Police said they received a call from the university administration around 12 noon after it found the girl hanging from a ceiling fan in the hostel room.
Police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy, collected forensic evidence and recorded statements of eyewitnesses.
A Punjab University spokesman said the girl had performed well in the cricket trials and was selected for admission.
He said the girl had been staying in the hostel for the last two days.
He said when girl’s cousin came back to her room, she knocked at the door and did not get any response. She alerted the hostel administration who broke open the door.
The spokesman quoting girl’s cousin said she was having some family issues and might have committed suicide.
Muslim Town SI Dildar Husain said police were waiting for the heirs to complete legal formalities.
