As many as fifteen people were killed and 27 injured in separate road accidents due to reduced visibility caused by dense fog in various parts of the country.
Several cities of Punjab, including Lahore,Multan, Khangarh, Shujabad,Pirowal, Vehari, Sheikhupura, Muridke, Okara and Sahiwal remained in the grip of dense fog on the night between Monday and Tuesday, while traffic flow remained disrupted on the motorway and other highways. Two people were killed and three injured when a trailer hit a passenger bus on Sheikhupra Road due to bad visibility. Four people were killed after a speeding trailer hit their car in Darya Khan. Motorway’s section from Lahore to Pindi Bhattian has been closed for all kinds of traffic as visibility was down to zero due to dense fog.
The motorway police has appealed the drivers to use GT Road for travel from Lahore to Pindi Bhattian besides driving slowly and switching on fog lights. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has rescheduled some of its flights going to Lahore and other parts of the Punjab due to heavy fog in order to avoid delays and diversions. A spokesman of the national flag carrier said on Tuesday that the passengers are being requested to check exact flight timings from PIA call centre before leaving for airports in fog affected areas, especially for flights during evening, night and early morning.
