American Airlines planes carrying Congress members collide at Reagan Airport

Two American Airlines aircraft collided on the taxiway at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, impacting flights carrying multiple Congress members.

The collision occurred around 12:45 p.m. when American Airlines Flight 4522, an Embraer E175 bound for New York, struck Flight 5490, a Bombardier CRJ 900 scheduled to fly to South Carolina, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as reported by CNN.

All 143 passengers from both planes were safely transferred to other aircraft to continue their travel plans, Reuters reported. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
