Earthquake of magnitude 6.2 jolts Indonesia, China, Hawaii

A magnitude 6.2 quake struck off Indonesia, the US Geological Survey said.

A very strong magnitude 6.2 earthquake occurred in the Ceram Sea near the coast of Maluku,  Indonesia, in the early morning of Monday, May 6, 2024 at 3.33 am local time (Asia/Jayapura GMT +9). The quake had a very shallow depth of 29 km (18 mi) and was reported felt by some people near the epicenter.

No significant damage or impact is expected from this quake and no particular alert was issued.

Residents of Tremonton may have felt some shaking on Sunday, as a 4.4 magnitude earthquake hit the area.

According to the University of Utah Seismograph Stations’ X account, the earthquake occurred at 5:30 p.m.

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations (UUSS) reports that a light earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred at 05:30 PM on May 05, 2024. The epicenter of the shock was located about 16 mi southwest of Tremonton, UT.

The UUSS reports that the epicenter of the quake was around 16 miles southwest of Tremonton.

This earthquake came just one day after Tremonton experienced another smaller earthquake. That earthquake was a 3.9-magnitude quake.

A light magnitude 2.3 earthquake hit 40 km (25 mi) away from HiloHawaii United States, in the afternoon of Sunday, May 5, 2024 at 4.08 pm local time (Pacific/Honolulu GMT -10). The quake had a very shallow depth of 0.9 km (0.6 mi) and was not felt. China also feld a jolt of 2.3 magnitude
