Multan has a potential to strengthen Pakistan's economy- Khawaja Jalauddin Roomi

Multan is the one of the oldest city of the World which is also known as city of spiritual saints (Madina-tul-Aulia).It has a great potential of tourism. The people of Multan are so sweet like their mangoes and submissive, polite and accommodating to visitors. These views were expressed by Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi, A well known industrialist cum philanthropist, Chairman of Jalaluddin Roomi welfare foundation, Ex-President of Multan -Dera Ghazi Khan chamber of Commerce & Industry and former Punjab caretaker Minister for Industries while exchanging views with officers of National Institute of Management Islamabad 38 training course at a special meeting here today. These Officers are visiting Multan and other cities of the country to acquaint themselves of problems and potential of different areas. Roomi said that Multan was manufacturing products of international standards and our fabric is being used by major brands . He informed the officers that Industry was playing a key role in strengthening the Pakistan's economy by boosting up its production beyond its capacity. He stressed the need for providing an atmosphere of doing business in affordable manners so that we could compete our neighbourers in world market. He suggested that Government should provide electricity, Gas and other utilities on concessional rates besides granting exemptions in taxes to attract the new investors . He said that it is the good tradition of  National institute of Management (Formerly NIPA) to send officers to remote areas of the country to get information about the miseries, problems of the people and different sectors so that they could resolve them after assuming their duties. He was optimistic that young officers would accelerate the economic speed in the country besides alleviating the miseries of common man.. Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi told them that the industry of South Punjab, inspite of its limited resources, is playing its role in the economy of Pakistan . Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi further said that South Punjab was neglected in past but it is a fertile region due to five rivers which are flowing in this region.Fact is that South zone is really a Punjab . Roomi said that South Punjab was known for its good quality cotton, Wheat, maize, sugarcane, Mango, dates, kinnow, etc.it contribute more than 40 percent in agricultural economy.Throwing light on the Pakistan Army 's Green Pakistan program , Khawaja Jalal uddin Roomi said that this programme would help us in self-sufficiency in food.He said that farmers of south Punjab are very hard working who make the thal desert abloom. They always helped Pakistan overcome food security problems. He suggested that Pakistan should endeavour to boost the  oil-producing crops like Soyabean, cottonseed, Olive,  sunflower , canola, rapeseed, and peanuts to save $4.5 Billion which is being spent on the import of edible oil. This will not only improve the economy of Pakistan, but will help in minimising the trade deficit. He said that boosting up agricultural production would help in reducing the unemployment and shifting of rural population towards cities.Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi told the officers of the 38th training course that the economic situation will change in the whole world. On the one hand, the whole world is worried about public order. So, on the other hand, the employment conditions are going towards deterioration. In these conditions, if we look at Pakistan, we are facing a much better situation that we do not have alarming unemployment and chaotic conditions like the rest of the world. Government and planning Institutions should play a role in alleviating unemployment by providing easy and low-interest loans, group and individual facilities under small textile units and small industries, especially Pakistan. For the first time in the history of Pakistan, the role played by the army under the Green Pakistan scheme will increase the GDP growth on the one hand and on the other hand it will give excellent results in the improvement of agricultural products. Apart from this, if the corporate agri and dairy farming projects are extended to the grass root level, the financial difficulties of the people here can be reduced to some extent. Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi told the delegation that Multan International airport can help the exporters of Perishable items like vegetables, fruits, fish  etc  but cargo facility is not avaiable like Lahore and Karachi .Now exporters of Multan are at the mercy of big exporters. If cargo flights are introduced at Multan international airport then Local farmers could get better return of their produce by supplying fresh vegetables,Fruits and other perishable items to Central asian stattes (CAS),Gulf-states, Dubai, Abu Dhabi etc. The Delegation of officers was highly impressed with Khawaja Jalauddin roomi who briefed them about the potential and possibilities of this region.
