Seven people, including five Himachal police personnel, were killed and four injured when the vehicle in which they were travelling skidded and fell into the Ravi river in Tissa tribal area of Chamba district.
Sources said that the nine police personnel from 2nd IRB from Sakoh near Dharamsala were going to join duty in Tissa region on the borders of Chamba and Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. They, along with a civilian and the driver of the vehicle, were travelling in a private taxi (Trax vehicle). In all, there were 11 people travelling in the vehicle when it met with the accident.
Chamba DC Apporv Devgan said the rescue operation was on at the accident site. An NDRF team had reached the site and was trying to flush out the body of a deceased from the Ravi. Those killed are five police personnel, the driver of the vehicle and the civilian.
The three injured police personnel have been shifted to Chamba medical college, while one has been given treatment at the Tissa hospital, he said.
Commandant of 2nd IRB at Sakoh, Khushal Sharma, said the information regarding seven casualties in accident had been received.
