Killer of 23 people was sentenced to 90 consecutive life terms in Texas

Patrick Cruzius, a white man who killed 23 people in a 2019 attack targeting Latinos at a Walmart in Texas, has been sentenced to 90 consecutive life terms.

Patrick Crucius, 24, was sentenced by an El Paso court. He pleaded guilty in February. He did not face the death penalty in this case, but he could face the death penalty in a case set to go to trial next year in Texas.

On August 3, 2019, a mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso left 23 people dead and 22 others injured. Prior to the attack, Patrick had posted a hateful note online. It was one of the deadliest recent attacks on Latinos in the US.

Kristen Clark, Assistant Attorney General of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, said she hopes the sentence will bring justice to those affected by this massacre of innocent people.
