11 killed due to gas leak from factory in Giaspura area of Ludhiana

Ludhiana,(Indian Punjab)At least eleven people were reported killed and several others were taken ill after a gas leak from a factory on Sua road in Giaspura locality of Ludhiana today morning, police said.According to an ANI report, 11 people have been hospitalized in the incident. The area has been cordoned off and a rescue operation is underway.

NDRF personnel have been called by the authorities and the whole area has been sealed. Locals have been asked to move to safer places.

Official sources said that the condition of nearly 10 people, who complained of breathing problems, is critical. Gas victims have been admitted to nearby hospitals.

Meanwhile, in a tweet, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has expressed grief over the incident. He wrote: "The incident of gas leak of factory in Giaspura area of ​​Ludhiana is very sad..Police, government and NDRF teams are present at the spot..All possible help is being provided..Details soon..".   As per reports, some people were found lying dead on the road.

Also the incident caused panic among locals, some of whom even left their homes to save lives.

An incident of gas leak was reported in the Giaspura area of Punjab's Ludhiana on Sunday. A senior official said that nine people died in this incident and 11 were hospitalised. Local administration, Police officials, and a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were present at the spot.

"Definitely, it is a gas leak case. The NDRF team is present at the spot to evacuate the people and will conduct the rescue operation. 9 people died in this incident and 11 are sick," Swati Tiwana, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Ludhiana West told news agency,

Earlier the police said that at least nine casualties were reported. "eleven people fell unconscious and they have been admitted to a hospital. A rescue team has been called to the spot. A team of doctors & ambulances have also been called," the police said, as per ANI.
