MCCI chief and others planted saplings in Multan

MULTAN, September 14th: Mian Fazal Elahi Sheikh President of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) on Monday planted a sapling alongwith Commissioner Multan Javed Akhtar Mehmood, Deputy Commissioner Amer Khattak, Mian Rashid Iqbal Senior Vice President of MCCI,Mian Nadeem Ahmed Sheikh, Vice President, Aurangzeb Alamgir and took part in nationwide spring tree plantation drive for the revival and restoration of forests in the country.Mian Fazal Elahi Sheikh said on the occasion that Multan Chamber ever participated in welfare schemes and doing work for the betterment of the masses.He said that Tree Plantation can play a vital role in combating climate change, which affects our planet. The average number of trees must be above 25% of the land in a particular country. However, according to current data on trees, only 3% of the land of Pakistan is covered with trees, which is the lowest ratio in the world. It can not sustain the current heatwaves occurring in the different parts of the country,he added.Mian Rashid Iqbal said "Pakistan is among the countries most affected by climate change... we need to protect it through the plantation of trees across the country," He hailed the Government's efforts for tree plantation and launching the ambitious project is an extension of the Billion Tree Tsunami.
