MULTAN, July 22nd: President of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) Mian Fazal Elahi Sheikh has stressed the need for the development of a small Industrial Estate in Multan for Small and Medium enterprises (SMEs).He said that the government must provide basic infrastructure for a systematic and planned development of the small and medium enterprises (SME) sector and also step up efforts for the early establishment of mega industrial estates. He was talking to Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) Regional Director Abdul Khaliq Hashmi and Assistant Director Farhan Raza, who visited the MCCI and spoke about the proposed setting up of small industrial estates in various districts of Punjab.He urged the PSIC to develop the maximum number of small industrial estates in other districts of South Punjab and called for the provision of proper infrastructure and basic facilities in a bid to avoid unplanned, haphazard and mushroom growth of the industrial sector. Regional Director Abdul Khaliq Hashmi said PSIC would encourage SMEs to utilise the local raw material to manufacture their products. The carpet industry would also be encouraged to set up its unit , which already had expertise in the sector. He added that 25% quota had been earmarked to women, who could also avail the facility at a subsidised rate.
