MULTAN, President Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) Mian Fazal Elahi Sheikh has urged upon the Punjab Government to resolve the financial problems confronted by WASA Multan and allocate maximum funds to rehabilitate the disposal system of the ancient city and supply of potable water to two million people. Talking to Managing Director of WASA Multan Khalid Nasim Chandio in Multan Chamber Mian Fazal Elahi Sheikh said that it was a great injustice with people of Multan to allocate sufficient funds for Gujranawala and less for Multan. when Multan is a metropolitan city with 93 union councils and fourth major city of Pakistan. He expressed his concern about treating Multan step-motherly and discriminately.WASA's managing Director Khalid Nasim Chandio briefed the MCCI office bearers that in spite of severe economic stress, WASA Multan was providing every possible service to citizens of this city. He claimed that under groundwater is a property of WASA and no one can use it without the permission of WASA. He further said that stagnating rainwater is cleared immediately to facilitate the people of low lying areas. Chandio said that WASA has introduced an amnesty scheme for the citizen of Multan.They can easily make regularise their water and disposal connections without any penalty or surcharge. Mian Rashid Iqbal Senior Vice President lamented that people of Multan and South Punjab were being victimised for making demands for their survival.The meeting was also attended by Auranzeb Alamgir, Muhammad Shafiq acting Secretary-General and Syed Hassan Bukhari.
