Pakistan can capture a big share in int’l Halal food trade

MULTAN, June 6th: Global Halal market is growing at a much faster pace and business community of South Punjab will also play its due role in enhancing overall Pakistani share in this important sector of the economy, said Mian Rashid Iqbal  Senior Vice President Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) while exchanging views with Mufti Abdul Aziz Zeeshan, Chief Executive Officer of the International Halal Certification Pvt. Limited in his office here on Friday. Mufti Abdul Aziz Zeeshan told that currently, the total volume of the global Halal market is around 2 trillion dollars which are expected to jump at 12.14 trillion dollars in 2024. He lamented that no Muslim country is included amount the top 10 Halal food-exporting countries and Pakistani share in it is only 0.25 percent. Senior Vice President MCCI said that “Pakistan must exploit these opportunities and in this connection, the local business community will be encouraged to switch over to the Halal market. He welcomed the visit of Mufti Abdul Aziz Zeeshan and told that MCCI in collaboration with the International Halal Certification Pvt. Limited will arrange an awareness session during the last week of August. He further told that the poultry industry has also grown up and now it is not only fulfilling our domestic needs but also has surplus to be exported to different markets.
Earlier, Mufti Abdul Aziz Zeeshan told that last year India exported red meat worth 21 billion dollars. He further told that the international store chain “Wal-Mart” had set up a shelf of Halal products just a few years ago which has now been expended into a full-fledged section only due to the heavy demand for Halal products. He said that Multan is a very important city of Pakistan which is known as the city of spiritual saints and hoped that they should also enter into the Halal market to enhance overall Pakistani share in this field. He told that a collective workshop could be arranged on Halal products followed by sector-specific awareness sessions.The meeting was also joined by Maj(Retd)Tariq Khan,Aurangzeb Alamgir and Muhammad Shafiq acting Secretary General of MCCI
