A fire broke out abruptly in a residential building under construction in Sharjah on Sunday.
Firefighters from four of the emirate's Civil Defence centres were still tackling the blaze, in Al Qasimia, as of 8pm.
It is unclear how the fire began but photographs from the scene show the top of the building, and a crane, engulfed in flames.
It is not known if workers were on site at the time.Several fire engines are trying to control the fire under control . The tenants of neighbouring buildings have been evacuated for safety.
The civil defense official said they received a call about the fire at 6:50 pm and fire firefighters from two fire stations in Sharjah were immediately dispatched to the site, who reached the site in less than 6 minutes.The topmost part of an under construction building in Al Qassimiya area of Sharjah, went up in flames on Sunday evening.
Civil Defense team members from Al-Mina, Al-Hamriyah and Samnan arrived at the venue on time to curb the fire.The building that is still under construction consists of 15 residential floors.
Walls of the building could be seen chipping off due to the fire.
Buildings adjacent to the place of the fire have been evacuated and residents are called upon to avoid that route.
The Civil Defense team have the fire under control despite difficulties in getting to the top floor.
