Pakistan & Russia should sign currency swap agreement-Kozlov

MULTAN, Jan 24th: Russian Trade Representative Yury M. Kozlov has said the bilateral trade volume between Pakistan and Russia is far less than the potential and stressed the need for enhancing cooperation with each other to increase the two-way trade.There is traditional trade culture between both the countries for the years as trade of same four items is going on. There is a need to explore more sectors for trade. He expressed these views while speaking at the Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry here on Friday.Russian Trade Representative said he is having regular meetings with Pakistani business community to develop more business interaction between the two countries. He also added that Russian Businessmen are keen to develop cooperation in trade and investment with their Pakistani counterparts. He invited the MCCI office-bearers to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) which  is an annual Russian business event for the economic sector, which has been held in St. Petersburg since 1997 and International trade Show in Steinburg to be held on July 7 to 10. He told that United state had imposed sanctions on Russian banks but we would provide a list of sanctions free banks.He suggested that Pakistan and Russia should also sign an agreement of Pak-Russia currency Swap for bilateral trade to end the burden of relying on U.S. dollars.He appreciated the currency swap agreement between Pakistan and China. MCCI Senior Vice President Mian Rashid Iqbal stressed the need for relaxing the visa policy to strengthen the bilateral trade relations and joint venture in different sectors.He said that according to ITC World Trade Map, the volume of bilateral trade between Russia and Pakistan stood at 532 million dollars in 2018 as compared to 442 million dollars in 2017. He said that there is a huge potential to boost the existing trade volume between the two countries, but it has been improving at a slow pace due to lack of direct banking channels. “MCCI would urge the governments of both countries to expedite the work in this regard".Muhammad Tariq Khan said that Multan region is known for Good quality Mangoes and other fruits.He asked him to provide a list of Russian fruit and vegetable importers.The meeting was also attended by Dr.Shahid Hassan, Syed Saqib Ali and acting Secretary General Muhammad Shafiq.Later,SVP of MCCI presented an Insignia of the chamber to the guest.
