Multan Police is a role model for other regions of the country- RPO

MULTAN, Dec 10th: Regional Police Officer Multan Muhammad Waseem Khan has said that Multan Police is a role model for other areas of the country and he underlined on Tuesday the importance of improving the police performance and changing what was described as `thana culture`, bridging the gap between the people and the police,and effective policing. Briefing the member of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) chaired by Sheikh Fazal Elahi ,RPO said that we have achieved the herculean task of completion and submission of challans which were lying pending since 2014 and a number of 20,161 out of total 26,295 challans were finalised with in nine months.He said that ratio of registration of cases was 55 % in 2018 which climbed up to 91 to 94 percent. RPO said that all the SHOs are binding to stay from 4 to 6 PM at police stations.Similarly Investigation officers(IOs)will be present in the premises. Responding to a question regarding safe city project,RPO said that paucity of funds is main hurdle in this way,however building has already been completed. He said that 90 percent show cause notices were served to police officers for not registration of cases.He said that we have adopted an internal accountability system and we have taken action against 134 police employees while services of 64 were terminated.He said that Multan region has an estimated population of 13 million and is spread over an area of 3720 k-2 and there 5530 policemen. It means one policeman for 842 people.There are 1700 jama mosques and we are going to hold open kutcheries in mosques to bring police and people closer to each other and redress of grievances of the masses.`Despite [policemen] rendering tremendous sacrifices, the gap between the people and the police still persists,` lamented the senior officer. He said that condition of police stations and lock-ups was improved.Now a copy of Holy Quran and "Jai-Namaz".A community room in each police station. He said police would encourage people to lodge FIRs as there would be no problem if crime registration increases as it would help arrest criminals.Working condition of all closed-circuit television cameras installed in the city should be checked. Banks` security should be checked regularly and one police officer should be assigned the task of checking recording of CCTVs installed there as per standard operating procedure.while checking and cleaning of all police lock-ups should be ensured.He said that business community is an important sections of society which pays taxes to run the business of the Government.In the world, businessmen enjoy a number of facilities and concessions and wewould try our utmost to resolve their problems and disputes.He appointed Mr.Kashif Aslam SSP (Operation) as focal person on the demand of MCCI member.He also assured to reactivate the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee besides formation of Dispute Resolution committee. He announced to increase the speed limit from 50 to 100 km/hr on Multan-Khanewal road.
Earlier ,in his welcome address President of Multan Chamber Fazal Elahi Sheikh paid tributes to policemen who sacrificed their lives defending the nation and offered special prayers for departed souls.He said, martyrs are alive and would be remembered forever. Police officials have remained at the forefront in the war against terrorism and rendered numerous sacrifices.He also eulogised the services rendered by RPO Multan for good policing.Before conclusion, Nadeem Ahmed Sheikh paid a vote of thank,Later Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi ex-President of MCCI,Chairman of Multan Dryport Trust presented a crest of chamber to the guest.Khawaja Muhammad Yousad Yousaf ,Shahid Mehmood Khan, Khawaja Muhammad Hussain ,Khawaja  Farooq and others stressed the need for making arrangement  for smooth flow of traffic in the city and registration of cases without any hindrance.
