A large number of people, protesting for the release of their loved ones languishing in jails in Saudi Arabia, were shifted by the police from D-Chowk to National Press Club on Wednesday.
The protesters gathered at D-Chowk but the police told them that they could not protest there. They were then taken by the police to the press club on a truck.
Talking to Dawn, Raja Mushtaq, a resident of Kachili village in Muzaffarabad, said his brother, Raja Mukhtab Hussain, worked at a tandoor in Madina.
“Almost a year back he was picked by the Saudi authorities on suspicion. Since then we have no news about him, He is a father of four children,” Raja Mushtaq said.
He said he had used all possible sources and contacted political personalities and authorities concerned but to no avail.
Another protester, Mohammad Nazeer, said even small countries raised voice for their citizens, and their embassies did not leave their people alone.Mohammad Azhar said his brother, Ghulam Shabbir, was in a jail in Jeddah and was facing death sentence.
“It has been eight years since he was sentenced and he could be executed any time. I appeal to the government to take up the matter with the Saudi government,” he said.
Ameer Afzal, who had come from Balakot, said his 60 years old father, Azizur Rehman, was arrested nine months back.
“My father went there for Umrah. During search, drugs were recovered from him,” he said.
Mohammad Babar from Kasur said his mother, Bilqees Bibi, was arrested three years ago after drugs were found in her luggage.
“I am sure someone had handed her some goods which contained narcotics which led to her arrest. The government is taking no action to bring her and other Pakistanis back,” he said.
